Azure IoT Developer Kit Ready for Pre-Order 1

Azure IoT Developer Kit

The new Microsoft Azure IoT Developer Kit board is pretty amazing! It is Arduino compatible and includes many sensors, buttons, and an OLED display all built-in. You can use this board to start prototyping Internet of Things (IoT) solutions without the need to do any wiring, soldering, or really even having much electronics knowledge. You can simply plug it into your computer, and get to coding away on your Azure IoT based solutions immediately. And, as of today, this Microsoft Azure IoT Developer Kit is available for Pre-Order, with shipments starting Sept. 1.

The Microsoft Azure IoT Developer Kit includes many great features, including the following subset of features:

  • Azure IoT Developer Kit Ready for Pre-Order 2Integrated Wifi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 128×64 OLED display
  • Motion sensor
  • Magnetometer sensor
  • Atmospheric pressure sensor
  • Temperature and Humidity sensor
  • 2x Buttons
  • 1 RGB LED light
  • Infrared emitter

In May 2017 it was announced by the Azure IoT team at Microsoft that they were working a new Azure IoT Developer Kit board. It was also announced that a “limited number” of the boards would be made available as a Preview for Free upon application and approval. Since then, in July 2017, the Azure IoT team mailed out all the Preview boards they were making available to those who have applied. They have also mentioned that they received many applicants for the boards; in fact many more than Preview boards they had available.

Today, in a Tweet posted by Olivier Bloch, it was announced that the Microsoft Azure IoT Developer Kit (aka DevKit) is now available for Pre-Order from a couple different online stores. This board is manufactured by MXChip, but you cannot buy it directly from them; instead you need to purchase from one of the available online retailers.

The board is priced at about $40 USD. This price point is really great since it puts it in the price realm of the Raspberry Pi 3 while keeping it fairly inexpensive for prototype and learning use. You can start Pre-Ordering the Microsoft Azure IoT Developer Kit from the following retailers:
