MkeGlobalAzureBootcamp2016This past Saturday, April 16th 2016, was Global Azure Bootcamp day. This was the 4th year for the Global Azure Bootcamp, and the first year an event location for it had been held in Milwaukee, WI. The Global Azure Bootcamp is a full day of learning about Microsoft Azure with event locations around the world. This year I helped co-organize the Milwaukee event, and I presented as well on Azure App Service. There were a number of local and global sponsors of this completely community driven event, along with all volunteer presenters.

There were a total of 4 presenters on the day; including myself. The presenters and what they presented on were:

This was a full day event (8 hours total) that was split between half the time being Presentations, and the other half being Hands-on Labs. The presentations and labs were based on the Azure Readiness DevCamp project, but were edited by the presenters for this event.

This was a completely community sponsored and hosted event. The location, lunch and prizes were all donated by the sponsors. Additionally, all presenters were volunteer who just really enjoy helping others and spreading knowledge of how awesome Microsoft Azure is.

Thank you to all the presenters! Great job!

The Milwaukee Global Azure Bootcamp event location was Sponsored by Concurrency (where Bill Hughes works) at their Brookfield, WI office; as well as the catered lunch for all attendees and speakers. There were a number of Books and other swag from Microsoft and Microsoft Press given out to attendees.

The other local sponsors whom the speakers were from, as well as some of the other door prizes were:

  • Perficient – This the company I (Chris Pietschmann) currently work for as a Solutions Architect, and they were kind enough to provide 2 Raspberry Pi 3’s as door prizes that were raffled off to 2 lucky attendees!
  • Data Wisdoms – This is Scott Petersen’s company. Scott and I were the primary coordinators setting up the event.
  • Omni Resources – This is where Tony Sebion works.

There were also a number of Global Sponsors who donated a number of prizes that were also given away to attendees at the event.

Presentation Slides and Event Photos

The slide decks from each of the presenters are being made available over on the MKE2016AzureBootcamp GitHub project. Additionally, a number of photos taken at the event are also available within the same Github repository. If you’re curious about the content from the event, or just want to look at the pictures from the event, go check out the Github repository.

Overal, the event ran pretty smoothly, and a lot of great content was presented by some really good speakers. Thanks to all presenters as well as all attendees! Without you, there wouldn’t have been an event. Also, special thanks goes to the Global Azure Bootcamp team for organizing the global event and getting together the prizes from all the global sponsors.

I had a great time presenting and helping people out with the hands-on labs throughout the day. It was a fun experience. Currently, I’m planning to help coordinate a Milwaukee Global Azure Bootcamp event next year as long as I am able to do so!

Until next year, go get your Azure on!

P.S. Please feel free to contact me with any question about Azure or general feedback on the event. You can either submit them to me in the comments on this post, via Twitter @BuildAzure or @crpietschmann or even using the Contact link on this blog. Thanks!
